Services

Paintings on canvas and wood

I work with paintings of any complexity—from minor damage to serious deterioration: cuts and punctures, burns, creases, flaking paint, stains and surface soiling. I also carry out varnish regeneration, edge repair/lining, and local paint‑layer restoration.

Icon restoration

Cleaning of darkened varnish and dirt, consolidation of gesso and paint layers, treatment of cracks (craquelure) and losses, and work with gilding. Also minor damage, chips, local retouching, and preventive conservation.

Consultation & assessment

Free initial assessment from photos (WhatsApp/Telegram): I’ll advise what can be done, the timeframe, and a rough cost estimate. Even small damage matters—sometimes consolidation is enough to stop further deterioration.

How we work

  1. 1. Photos & preliminary assessment

Send 3–5 photos in WhatsApp (overall view + close‑ups of damage). We’ll provide a rough estimate of cost and timing.

  2. 2. In‑person examination & agreement

We receive the object in the studio, carry out a detailed examination, agree on the treatment plan and confirm all details.

  3. 3. Restoration & handover

We work step by step. When finished, we return the object with a detailed photo report and storage recommendations.

About

Restora Atelier is a private restoration studio in Zurich. I am Maria Bordanova, an art conservator‑restorer. I graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kyiv (NAOMA) and gained my main practical experience working with icons, easel and monumental painting, including church murals. In my practice I carry out conservation and restoration: consolidating paint layers and ground, gently cleaning surfaces, filling losses, and working with gilding. For me it is essential to preserve the authenticity of the artwork, so I follow the principle of minimal intervention, use reversible museum‑grade materials, and carefully document every stage photographically.

Frequently asked questions

How much does restoration cost?

The final price can only be calculated after examining the damage. As a reference: basic surface cleaning of a painting — from 100 CHF, consolidation of an icon’s paint layer — from 150 CHF. The fastest way to get a quote is to send photos on WhatsApp.

How long does the work take?

Restoration cannot be rushed due to technological processes (for example, drying of adhesives or varnish). Small local treatments take 1–3 weeks. Complex work may take 2–3 months.
